Ferocity of the Velocity

Jul 27, 2015
Trying to describe standing in the middle of a small roundabout. I am feeling the intimidating force of the vehicles as they keep moving all about me. There is no break in traffic to allow the possibility of navigating through or beyond where I am. I am required to just stand there.
As I am describing this feeling, Michael, my husband, responds with the word 'vortex.'
I said 'yes!' Yet neither of us really quite understood. Pondering on the concept of vortex  I felt the Lord say,  'I am the vortex.'

Many of those we love are experiencing very challenging times. Some are battling spiritually, for others it is physical and emotional. It is huge, threatening circumstances for others.
We have a responsibility to share the burden of others.
The Bible tells us to pray always. While these burdens are not to overwhelm us they do require us to constantly stand and Wait, patiently and attentively.

Then I  looked up the definition of vortex: a mass of spinning air, liquid, etc., that pulls things into its center
1 : something that resembles a whirlpool <the hellish vortex of battle >
2 a : a mass of fluid (as a liquid) with a whirling or circular motion that tends to form a cavity or vacuum in the center of the circle and to draw toward this cavity or vacuum bodies subject to its action; especially : whirlpool, eddy
b : a region within a body of fluid in which the fluid elements have an angular velocity

Then I looked up the definition of Velocity:
1 a : quickness of motion : speed
b : rapidity of movement
c : speed imparted to something
2 : the rate of change of position along a straight line with respect to time : the derivative of position with respect to time
3 a : rate of occurrence or action : rapidity
b : rate of turnover

God is all around us and knows each situation well. Nothing is out of His sight or out of His control. John Kilpatrick says, 'Everything is Father filtered!'

Recently I've often returned to the thought of abiding in Him. Abiding is a great concept, even if standing in a vortex is not the most comfortable place to be abiding. When we are challenged with ferocity of the velocity we can trust Him.

He draws us and stays with us. It doesn't matter how out of control it seems. When it is a hellish battle He is the safe place. Much like the eye of a tornado which can be quite peaceful, He will be the center. When we don't know where or when to go or what to do we can just hang there. Stay focused on Him and let Him be the center.

He helps us stand in the midst of the commotion, the timings, shiftings, the pain, and the changing of positions. He holds us steady all the time and every time. He knows when we need to be still and when it is safe to move. When action on our part is needed, or required He makes the way. He is the best guide to take us straight through.

In Midwestern Illinois we need a physical shelter to go to during a storm. In this sheltered place It is strongly recommended we keep a battery charged light, and/or candles and matches; a battery powered device to listen to weather reports; and perhaps a small supply of food and drink. To be comfortable we might have a chair, or blanket and pillow.

Then we just wait. Prepared to see in the dark we listen for the warnings and information from a source who monitors the storm. Thankfully this helps us know much about the storm. It is a protective, preventive system that has kept us through many a storm.

Inside the shelter We may fret and worry about the danger looming. But ultimately we must keep waiting, staying in that safe place, listening, and trusting the directions we are being given. It is very important. It has probably saved our lives more than once.

There are always more stormy seasons than we want. We don't know how many there will be or long they will last. We don't know what the velocity of the storm will be. We do know God is faithful to be there all the way through.

In the ferocity of the velocity it can be a challenge to hear the voice we need. The voice is high above, yet so near, and deep inside. If you find yourself in a vortex needing a physical healing, a spiritual encounter, or facing overwhelming circumstances let me say this loud and clear - God is with you!

Pondering Jeanne Mayo tweet, "Are you a PASSENGER

Pondering Jeanne Mayo tweet, "Are you a PASSENGER in your own emotional life...or the DRIVER." Driving requires skills that you practice until your ability progressively improves. How to pass, how to make turns, overtake, when to stop, when to go, and even parking requires a driver with some skill level. A passenger doesn't get anywhere without a driver. A passenger is at the mercy of who is driving them.
There are some skills to be 'learned' both spiritually and practically. Make sure your learning comes from a good experienced instructor. An instructor/coach who has navigated well the roads of emotional mountains, pot holes, detours, and the deserts. Often it is experience which helps us to see more clearly.  If you want to drive well, it takes practice. A wreck is not necessarily a reason to quit driving. Don't give up - get some help. Don't ignore the warning signs, the speed limits, or the rules of the road.
They are all good ways that will take you get to your desired destination.

Red Rover Red Rover

Red Rover Red Rover send  _______  right over! This was one of my favorite games to play with my friends. Forming two teams who were facing each other, one team would call out to someone on the other side to see if they could come over and break through our barriers. As we desperately held hands with the others on our team we waited until the crash came. They either crashed through our line or joined our side because they could not break the hold. It was one of those games I could pretty much hold my own unless a semi-truck was coming through. Don't get me wrong, I am small and can get bowled over, but I also have a strong grip and great determination to win. Most games have a way to select the teams. I was not usually the first one chosen for any team ever.

Life doesn't always give us the choices we might desire. But sometimes not getting what we would choose is not so bad. We then learn to cope, to do something we've never done before, and it makes us stronger. Jesus said to His disciples, "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you." (John 15:16)

He came to have a team for Himself. He calls whosoever who would come to be on His team. Jesus saw me and called me, and He sees you and calls you. Before we even knew Him He loved us and desired for us to be on His team. He doesn't wonder if we might be good enough for the team. He knows we would never make it without His help. He paid a very high price to even have a team. Now He gives us a choice to join Him. He knows not just who we have been, but what we are capable of. His love is so powerful. He knew if we could experience His love and learn to trust Him, nothing could stop us. Anything we had ever faced when we were alone now we face together with Him. He causes us to overcome. He promised Holy Spirit will come inside us and make everything about us new. Jesus loved to tell stories to explain what He wanted us to know. He said that we had the potential to be like a good tree bearing good fruit.  He actually lived a life here on earth in order to help us bear fruit. When He no longer lived on earth, He returned to Heaven. He said His Spirit would remain and live as part of us, inside of us, every minute of the day. When it does we will begin to bear fruit like He did – but we can't do it without Him. It's about doing it with Him. Jesus says I can make it happen I can make your dreams come true. I will cause you to be fruitful. He used a picture of himself as the vine and we the branches. Now the branches don't bear fruit if they aren't attached to the vine. The branches needed the water and nutrients the vine provided to bear fruit. The branch needs the water and the nutrients the vine provides in order to even sustain it's self. The branch cannot live on it's own. Jesus desires to provide life for us and the facts are we cannot "live" without Him. John 15:4-5 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Mostly He wants to make us fruitful for the benefit of everyone, so everyone will know Him.
